The recent 15th OneWingz Golf & Legend Tribute at Steyn City turned out to be the most successful ever! A whopping R1 570 000 was raised on the day, thanks to another full golf field, additional table sales, another successful raffle and auction at the Legend Tribute, and a generous donation of R 500 000 towards costs and our fund, from PayByFace Africa!
This year, our fund benefitted even more from some amazing sponsorships from suppliers like SA Event Décor, who set up an amazing venue for the Legend Tribute at The Lagoon at Steyn City Centre, at absolutely no cost to OneWingz! Bottles from Barrels provided all the refreshments for the artists and their guests at no cost, and EV Global provided a state-of-the-art golf cart which fetched R 180 000 in the auction. These were all new additions to our sponsor stable, who join loyal sponsors like MSC Cruises, who sponsored New Year 3 Cruises worth R70 000, Mark My Words, who notched up their 15th year in a row as our golf day co-ordinators, and, of course, Steyn City, who once again provided the golf course and Lagoon absolutely free of charge, in addition to all their other contributions such as snacks & meals, green fees and carts, and all their infrastructure required for the day / evening!
And we had Tourvest sponsor over R 100 000 in travel costs for our artists, Rubix Shuttles and Transfers provide for all the transfers for the artists, AGG Motors handled all shuttles from the Clubhouse to the Lagoon for golfers, and Indaba Hotel and Palazzo provided all accommodation for free … all of whom are first time sponsors this year.
And special mention to our two long-standing partners: One Financial, our founding partner, who once again invested funds towards any additional costs incurred from items that were not sponsored; and The Courier Guy, our main sponsor for the 5th consecutive event, who covered the costs of all the artists who performed at the Legend Tribute!

This year our Legend Tribute line-up included our first “international act” in Chris White from Dire Straits. He was joined by Southern African-born (keeping to our commitment since the first event, to have an all-Southern African line-up for the concert) Terence Reis, with Brent Harris & Thee Jam providing their backing, as Chris and Terence did their first ever collaboration with a “foreign” band as the duo who head up the Dire Straits Experience. Claire Johnston, co-founder of the golf day Kurt Darren, Just Jinjer, Soweto Gospel Choir, John Ellis (Tree63) all returned to the Legend Tribute stage, together with first-timers Mafikizolo and Craig Hinds (Watershed).
It’s thanks to support like this, which just grows every year, that it is possible to change more and more lives for the better, through our OneWingz of Change activations, each week on Just Plain Drive on Mix 93.8! And in 2023, thanks to this amazing response, we look forward to adding a 3rd activation weekly, to accompany our regular OneWingz slot, as well as our weekly SilverStar Pays Forward activation!
