Rest in Peace Francina

Rest in Peace Francina

It is with much sadness that we share the news that Francina Mosia, our dear Mandela House recipient for 2022, passed away on Tuesday morning, 22nd February.

Francina had been through so much trauma in her short twenty-something life – losing most of her family, being abandoned by the father of her daughter, illness, surviving an arson attack on her home – yet always maintained a bright, positive and very infectious attitude.

She was so excited when she heard she and her little Roxy were going to be the recipients of our 6th Mandela House this year!

However, to add to Francina’s challenges, she contracted Covid during the Delta wave last year, and, although she managed to recover from this dangerous variant, the damage it had done to her left her hospitalised for most of late 2021 into early 2022. Doctors struggled to pinpoint an actual diagnosis, however, in early February, when Lupus had been identified, Melissa and Francina’s Foster family were relieved that at least there was now a condition that could be identified for treatment.

Francina came home from hospital in early Feb, with much to look forward to, especially her and Roxy’s new home, which they would take possession of on Mandela Day in July. However, shortly afterwards, her condition took a turn for the worse, she was back in hospital and after every effort was made to stabilise her, she suffered cardiac arrest on Tuesday morning 22nd, and succumbed to the long-term effects of the Covid she had suffered from the previous year.

OneWIngz, together with SilverStar Pays Forward, had already committed to paying for Roxy’s full school fees and needs for 2022. In addition, R10 000 has been pledged towards Francina’s burial costs, and OneWingz is in the process of opening a Special Needs Account for Roxy, so that her needs will be taken care of for the foreseeable future.

We will share details of this account in our next edition.

RIP Francina
