Christopher Duma gets support for the year, and Oni gets to realise his soccer dream

Christopher and Christina Duma used to live in Dobsonville, Soweto, with their son, Oni, and had just started making their way in life, moving to a new apartment on the West Rand, when Covid hit. Christopher – a security guard – was retrenched, and Christina became the sole breadwinner of the family.

Then, on 9 January, with the stress of having to make ends meet for her family, Christina suffered a heart attack and passed away, leaving Christopher and Oni on their own, with no prospect of any income to support each other.

Janine Davies, for whom Christina had worked as a domestic worker, assisted where she could, but she too was feeling the pinch of the lockdowns. So, she approached OneWingz and SilverStar pays Forward.

In February, on JustPlain Drive, Complex general Manager, Caroline Naidu, gave Christopher the good news that SilverStar Pays Forward will be providing a total of R20 000 in grocery and clothing vouchers over the next 10 months.

Furthermore, Oni had shown much promise asa young 16 year old footballer, having already been selected for Orlando Pirates Youth, however, due to financial constraints, Oni had no means of travelling to and from training sessions, and had to give up on that dream.

OneWingz contacted former PSL coach with Moroka Swallows, Zeca Marques, who has just recently opened his brand new Balderstone Training Institute, where they have partnered with Portuguese Club, Farense FC, to assist youth in their football and lifestyle development. Zeca pledged to invite Oni to all their coaching sessions for the year, with his first experience having already taken place in February.

Zeca will be keeping OneWingz up to date on Oni’s progress as he chases his footballing dream!
